Deontay Wilder made the most of his first heavyweight title defense.
Fighting in his home state of Alabama before a raucous crowd that roared its approval from start to finish, Wilder knocked out Eric Molina in the ninth round with a huge right hand.
Wilder had registered three knockdowns prior to the finishing blow, and it was clear that he had a big advantage when he cornered Molina or set his feet and delivered a big punch. However, he also gave Molina quite a few openings before the knockout blow was landed.
Wilder improved to 34-0, and 33 of his wins have been by knockouts. Molina fell to 23-3 and saw his five-fight winning streak come to an end.
Jose “The Sniper” Pedraza (20-0, 12 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Andrey Klimov (19-2, 9 KOs) in the co-main event.
