It appears that early stage talks have started for a much talked about fight between Nottingham’s Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch and Kazakhstan’s Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin.
Froch has been inactive since stopping George Groves in the 8th round of their Wembley sellout in May last year. Almost 12 months to the day it appears Carl wants another shot at making history by taking on the man many think is unbeatable. Froch has publicly called Golovkin a ‘small kid’ in a recent interview and seems confident he could tame the heavy hitter and get a win.
Golovkin who won a 20th consecutive KO victory last weekend to take himself to ’33-0′ with no 30 KO wins!
Whilst some believe he is still largely untested he has been in and won by KO against Martin Murray, Curtis Stevens, Matthew Macklin, Daniel Geale and most recently Willie Monroe Jr.
Whilst the non ‘Hardcore’ boxing fans still may not have heard a lot about GGG yet his KO compilations and HBO profile videos are starting to do the round on social media sites and as the fight is talked up I am pretty sure there wont be many people who will want to miss this one.
Froch is world renowned for being in entertaining fights and hardly ever taking a backward step. He often refers to himself as a ‘warrior’ and definately has the heart and guts to back it up.
He climbed off the canvas to controvercially stop George Groves in there first fight, and then when there was a demand for a second fight he gave the people what they wanted and took the second fight. A fight which many believed may have been a risky venture because of how well George Groves performed in the first fight.
Froch is known for having a granite like chin and although he has lost fights to Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward he didn’t get knocked down in either fight and survived the 12 rounds to lose on points.
Golovkin is the ‘swear word’ that most fighters in his weight category and those above and below are trying not to say publically. He has stated hi is willing to drop down or move up in weight to get a much awaited big name fight. he has called out Carl Froch, Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. But until now there really hasnt been any serious talk about any of those fights happening.
Eddie Hearn has said before that there wasn’t enough money in the fight to take it seriously but after GGG’s last few performances, one of which was on UK terrestrial TV there is now a lot more public interest in the fight.
As a boxing fan and long time follower of both fighters I really hope this fight happens. I think it is a fight Froch can get up for and it is a huge challenge.
It is also a fight i think that Golovkin deserves. He has paid his dues fighting some of the very best fighters he can convince to get in the ring with him, but has been avoided by all of the big money names in the sport.
Please take a minute to comment! I want to hear your views on this fight. Who wins and how?
Should Carl retire? Can he take Golovkins power?
